Victorian Restoration

Alameda, CA

This older Victorian home in Alameda, California had character, but needed a facelift and interior remodeling. The result was a detailed exterior and interior restoration of an 1894 Victorian house originally designed by influential architect and developer Joseph Leonard.

Saikley Architects and Buestad Construction worked closely with the clients to uncover evidence of original exterior and interior details of the Victorian house, such as the home’s stained glass windows. Areas of the exterior and interior had been removed and needed to be recreated like the three-dimensional sunburst under the gable.

Minor changes were made to the second story layout to add a bathroom for a master suite while staying true to the original feeling of this Victorian house. This Victorian home restoration project won a Preservation Award from the Alameda Architectural Preservation Society.
