This kitchen and dining room were part of a major renovation of the architect’s Craftsman farmhouse. We wanted to retain the charm of the old house while significantly opening up spaces, bringing in more light, and updating the house in practical ways.
Color, pattern, and lighting add to the vitality of the house throughout the rooms. The aim was to create a home of lasting comfort and beauty.
Principles of sustainable design were used wherever practical. Many salvaged materials and objects were rehabilitated and reused; radiant heating was installed under floor tiles; bamboo flooring and other environmentally low-impact materials were used throughout.
